When grief inspires social change -Rajasthan.

Infanticide, and more specifically the murder of baby girls, is shrinking in at least one small part of India. A Rajasthani village chief has converted his grief over the death of a 16 year old daughter into a move for social change across his community. Education is being viewed as a means to changing traditional views of the 'costs' of having female children and the physical act of planting a tree to mark the birth of each girl-child seems to give physical proof of the higher value now being ascribed to daughters within that village community.
